BREAKING NEWS: Hallingdal nears 100 km cycle path

- With 42 km of completed trails, Hallingdal set a Norwegian record for trail development last year. This year, Scandinavia's largest trail cycling region is following this up with a new 33 km of trails, which means Hallingdal will soon boast an incredible 100 km of trails for cyclists. This year, the region is also launching a brand new illustration map to help cyclists find their way.

Flå, Nesbyen, Gol, Ål, Geilo and Hemsedal. Together, the six municipalities make up the Hallingdal region, which in a short space of time has developed Norway's most extensive network of trails for mountain bikers. The initiative has been built one stone at a time since 2016, and by 2022 the total number of trails built for cyclists will reach 100 km! This makes Hallingdal the largest cycling region in Scandinavia. The new projects for 2022 are distributed as follows:

  • Flå, Høgevarde: A total of 19 km of new trail: Blue flow trail from the top of Fjellheisen to Lavvoen (1 km); red flow trail from the top of Fjellheisen to Lavvoen (1.8 km); climbing trail from Lavvoen to the top of Fjellheisen (2.9 km); flow trail from Høgevarde Fjellpark to Gulsvik (13.2 km. Final length of trail will be 16 km).

  • Flå, Turufjell: One of Norway's largest paved pumptracks at 330 running meters/2,000 m2

  • Gol, city center: Completion of the downtown trail center (1.3 km in 2022, total approx. 2.5 km). Opening on June 17!

  • Gol, Golsfjellet: Skill park at Bualie (750 m2/12-15 skill elements)

  • Ål, Rota: First stage of 7 km long trail from Rota to the city center (In 2022, the end of approx. 1.5 km will be built)

  • Geilo, Vestlia: 3 new family-friendly trails by the Ustedalsfjord (1.7 km in total)

  • Hemsedal, Hemsedal Ski Center: Downhill trail in the area around Sentrumsløypa (7.5 km) and trail loop in "Skånebollen" (2 km), both starting from the top station of the Hollvin lift.

More news for the season

With the development of the trails, Hallingdal has also become a cycling destination for the whole family. While the new trails are being completed through 2022, cyclists of all ages can start looking forward to more news throughout the season. As early as June 17, the trail center in the center of Gol will be officially opened, and the following day, June 18, there will be an official opening of the 17 km long bike trail "HallingSpranget", which runs from Nesfjellet and 900 meters down to Nesbyen city center. On July 1, the official opening of "Silverstone", the new 9 km blue flow trail in Hemsedal. And if you're in the mood for more lift-based flow cycling, look forward to June 25, when the bicycle lift in Geilo will be launched, including the "Flow Motion". This is just the icing on the cake, and the trail product has gradually become so extensive that a regional trail map was needed.

The flowchart

With almost 100 km of trails, Hallingdal has truly developed into the "Flow Valley" in Norway. In the new official trail map, you'll find all the built trails and other trail favorites that score high among cyclists. So planning this year's family holiday should be a breeze. The map can be found on Rides.no, where it can be downloaded in PDF (at the bottom of the article). It will also be possible to pick up a copy of the map at one of the 6 tourist information centers in the valley or at established bicycle companies.
