Highlights from the 2025 season

2025 was one of the biggest years for trail biking in Hallingdal. New iconic trails, a growing festival scene, record-breaking lift-based biking a 10-year anniversary worth celebrating—all driven by the community that builds, maintains, and uses the trails.

#1. The biggest stiny news

The biggest news of the season could hardly have been bigger: the opening of Blueberry Jam, the nearly 18-kilometer-long flow trail from Høgevarde to Gulsvik. This is one of the most extensive trail developments in Hallingdal ever – a signature line that is already being touted as a "must-ride" in 2026.

And once you get started, we recommend combining Blueberry Jam with Hallingspranget and Silverstone on the same weekend. Then you can start the working week by boasting about completing a flow marathon – a full 42 kilometers of downhill fun!

As if that weren't enough, the region also got a brand new bike park in 2025: Nesfjellet Bike Park. This strengthens one of Norway's most established bike destinations with lift-based biking all levels. This year's season offered green, blue, and red lines—and in 2026, a black jump line and several exciting expansions will be added. We are very excited!

#2A mecca for lift-based biking

In 2025, Hallingdal strengthened its position as one of the country's best destinations for lift-based biking. For the first time, five bike lifts were in operation at the same time:

  • Høgevarde Trail Center

  • Nesfjellet Bike Park

  • Hillbilly Bike Park (Ål)

  • Bike lift at Geilo

  • Bike lift in Hemsedal

This development is yet another indicator that mountain biking is growing steadily and yielding positive results. This is evident from, among other things, more than 35,000 registered lift trips in Hemsedal, a 17% increase in Vestlia Bike Park, and around 10,000 laps in Hallingspranget. Hallingdal is truly in a class of its own when it comes to modern, safe, and accessible downhill cycling!

#3Maintenance, volunteering, and Dig Days

With increasing traffic – and increasingly frequent extreme weather – the need for operation and maintenance is growing. The trails in Hallingdal are largely built by non-profit organizations and financed by a broad community of municipalities, destinations, businesses, and users.

Extreme weather conditions, such as Storm Hans in 2023 and again this summer, make maintenance particularly challenging. Many cyclists want to contribute, which is why we introduced Hallingdal Dig Days: days when local and visiting cyclists join us in the forest and give a little love back to the trails – under the guidance of experienced trail builders.

For those who are unable to attend in person, there is now also the option of make financial contributions that will go directly to the valley's "Trail gnomes," who need shovels, picks, and other necessary equipment to keep the trails in top condition.

#4. 10 years of cycling initiatives – and clear ripple effects

In 2025, Hallingdal celebrated the 10th anniversary of its official cycling strategy. In just a decade, the region has built over 120 km of dedicated trails – the most in the Nordic region.

The Institute of Transport Economics has measured the effects of the initiative (external link), which is creating more than 100 new jobs, significant economic ripple effects and public health benefits, and greater well-being and quality of life among local residents – especially the valley's youngest inhabitants!

This is an initiative that politicians, businesses, and residents can be proud of—and 2025 confirms that Hallingdal continues to deliver on both quality and volume.

Thanks for an awesome season – see you on the trails in 2026!
